Theatrical dinner all aboard

For a long time the history of the VOC (Dutch East India Company) was a typical male history. Only the last years there is more attention for the role of women during this era. During this dinner five women share their stories.

The evening starts with a cold beer at  cafe The Big Swan. Greet, the owner, offers Dutch snacks and talks about the history of Amsterdam. Then the group is lead to the ships room to “sail off to Asia”. They get a sailors jacket to fit in and a Dutch gin against the sea sickness.

Between the courses of the dinner several women appear on the ship; a poor sailor’s wife, a rich merchants wife (who serves Dutch liquors) and a prostitute who checks out the ships for clients while back in the harbor.

“So hoist the sail, let the adventure begin!”
